FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DENTURES

  • How long will my dentures last?

Dentures don’t last forever. They usually last between 5–7 years and need to be relined every 2 years. Over time they become worn and don’t fit as well, so it’s important to reline them regularly. The better you follow the correct care procedures, the longer your dentures will last.

  • How much do dentures cost?

There are many different types of dentures, and the cost will depend on your requirements. At your free initial consultation Damian will be able to assess your needs and discuss your concerns in depth. Then, we’ll discuss costs before commencing any treatment.

  • Will everyone know I’m wearing a denture?

Dentures are made to resemble your natural teeth as closely as possible, so there should be no noticeable unplanned change to your appearance. Damian has a meticulous eye for detail and will go to great lengths to ensure your new teeth look as natural as possible and don’t affect your speech. He also recommends bringing in a photo of yourself with original teeth, so he can have a better understanding of exactly what you need. Dentures may even improve your smile and fill out your facial appearance.

  • How will I adjust to wearing dentures?

It will take some time to adjust to your new dentures. Your cheek muscles and tongue will need to learn how to keep your denture in place. If you have any initial soreness or irritation, this will settle down and become more comfortable over time with adjustments being part of our service. You may have some difficulties saying certain words or eating certain things but with time and practice you will soon become accustomed to your dentures and will be eating and speaking normally.

  • How do I care for my dentures?

Caring for your dentures is as simple as using some warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush. You can also soak in any of the commercially available denture cleansers. When not in use they should be stored in the case provided.

  • Can I claim a health fund rebate?

If your dental health cover includes dentures you should be able to claim a rebate. We can facilitate this by claiming for you through HICAPS with all the major health funds. We recommend that you discuss your cover/rebate directly with your health fund provider and we can provide you with an itemised quote to help work out any out of pocket expenses.
